This should go without saying, but if you pile everything on one employee or give them a task that doesn’t match their skill set, you risk stressing them out too much. If you give them a task that they aren’t trained for they will do it much slower than someone who is trained because they’re scared of messing up and getting fired.
Instead of giving the task to someone who isn’t qualified because the qualified person is off or on break just wait or do it yourself. This is much more efficient.
Practice Good Communication
Communication is essential to the workplace. If your employees don’t know what you expect out of them or fully understand what they have to do to finish a task, they won’t be able to be productive. You can do this by having a face to face chat or by sending emails.

Use Time Tracking

This doesn’t just go for being late. If one of your employees starts to slack you can start doing it with projects as well. Give them a project, decide how much time they have to get said project done, and then set a timer.
If they don’t get the project done by the time the timer goes off, they will have to face some sort of consequences. It goes without saying that you should only do this with a very low performing employee. If you do it with all of them, the high performing ones may take it the wrong way.
You should provide incentives for a low-performing employee to become a high-performing one. You can do this by offering cash bonuses, buy them coffee, or give them a little bit of extra vacation time.
People also like to feel like they are useful so just by providing some encouraging words and recognizing their hard work you will make them feel appreciated and give them a self-esteem boost. Providing these incentives will also cause hard-working employees to stay that way.
Cut out Insignificant Tasks
If you give an employee a large task to perform and then also make them fill out three reports, file their paperwork, turn it in a copy of it, and then send you an email telling you that they did it, this will cut down on productivity by a lot.
Instead of giving them a bunch of little tasks on top of the big one that you’re already having them perform, just have them focus on the big one. They can pour all their focus into that without worrying about the five tiny tasks that proceed it.
An employee can’t perform their job adequately if you don’t train them to do so. When you hire new employees, walk through every aspect of the job with them. Show them the ropes.
If you do this, they will understand your expectations and know what they’re doing. This will, of course, make for productive employees.
